I had the opportunity to interview author and creator, Danielle Hitchen, of Bible Basics – A Baby Believer Counting Primer on my podcast. I was sent the book to review and when I received it, I was so astounded at how lovely a job she did in creating a timeless book for children with some real “meat” in it. Listen in to the Interview.
From cover to cover the books is impeccably designed, pleasing both to the adult eye and to the eyes of children. Where we usually see a host of pastels or primary colors, the Pantones chosen are hues of turquoise, orange, mustard yellows, deep reds, oranges and more. Her belief that children are ready for content that is spiritually sound and not “dumbed down” made a huge impact with me. With messages about the core elements that every Christian should know, it is a wonderful primer for children and an awesome reminder for all ages of the core tenants of the Christian faith.
Alongside the fantastic visuals are 10 tenets that your child will love to hear you read to them, over and over again. Danielle reviews the natures of Jesus, the first five books of the Bible, the four Gospels, the Beatitudes and the Fruits of the Spirit. Each set of pages is beautifully scripted yet palpable for even the youngest ears.
I spent many years on the foreign mission field and wish I would have had this book to share with children and adults in our outreach effort. Knowing that, I made sure that a copy of this book was in 18-month old nephew’s Easter basket and I highly encourage those that need the perfect gift for a child in their life also pick one up. Every child should have this book on his or her bookcase.
Wonderful book- highly recommended!
