Nothing tickles my heart more than a day trip. Well, long trips overseas do but day trips give me a chance to mini-vacay when I cannot get away for long. I happen to live in North Texas and though NTX can get a few jabs from our southern and eastern sister-zones, we have some cool day trips around these parts too.

Today I want to travel you to Rockwall, TX. It is a little town I live close to and it is a fabulous day away.
Those of you who want to shop, sip and stroll, a day downtown will not disappoint. More than a hearty handful of boutiques and eclectic artsy-styled shops are waiting for you. These shops happen to be surrounded by my favorite thing, food. And lots of it. Every food choice has got flair too: Austin-style New American, Trendy tacos, British-inspired pub & eats, new Italian fire oven pizzas, true Texas BBQ, an old-school diner and of course, this is Texas, fine Texican-Mexican. You will not lack for food, drink or shopping power in this little downtown.

If you are feeling generous, take a lovely little drive east on 66 (the main road through downtown) and stop into the all new Helping Hands Boutique. Beloved by Rockwall resident, The Boutique is a great chance to find that perfect piece and know that your shopping is helping a family in North Texas.
Located just 7 minutes from Interstate 30, it is 25 minutes from Dallas, and if you are passing through Texas on i30 and need a break from the road, this is your mid-way stop. Dallas is too big and hard to navigate if you just need a day or a couple of hours break.

One of my favorite shops in the shop is Rustic Junktion. Home to some great items, I always leave with a fresh design or repurpose inspiration for my home & office. My counseling office is what it is because of this delicious decor mecca.

Last on my list for the day away is the local tap house, Woodcreek Brewery. My love and respect for the art of craft beer were solidified when Rockwall opened its first tap house right on the highway. Simply stated, Brewery, on its outdoor sign, you would think that it is nothing special. Yet, step inside you’ll enjoy a cozy brew-house atmosphere just inches away from the actual brewing warehouse. Life-sized games await you while you choose from local-brewed favs and for those that are driving safely, they have some great home brewed root beers on tap as well. Their tag line is Real. Texas. Beer. It truly is a taste of Texas attitude within the walls of a beer brewing factory. It’s a great place to hang with friends or write a while at a corner high-top.

There you have it, my mini-guide to a great day trip in North Texas. All locations in this post are located near Interstate 30. And all are chocked full of inspiration to get your creative juices flowing. If you decide to stop on by, give a shout on my Twitter or Facebook and share what you have experienced, photographed or created while on your own Rockwall Day Away. Enjoy!
